A Street Dogs Update From Johnny Rioux!

Whats up?!

I just wanted to drop a line and give a little “internet Street Dogs update”. The fellas are ripping it up currently in Europe. They just got done in the UK and Dublin and are moving onward to Tilburg in The Netherlands tommorow. If you are in Europe, go check ‘em out with Flogging Molly, Skindred, and Time Again. Check out our tour dates for details. The other day Tobe set up his IChat on his amp and I got to watch the set live in London. It was crazy, and Gavin did awesome! I miss them all and will see them soon.

I’ve been keeping busy with my family and recording music. I also got to see some of my favorate bands they other day at Fun Fun Fun fest in Austin. I hadn’t seen Swingin’ Utters since we were recording Savin Hill in 2002 so that was really great. And The Adolescents were insane. Dead Milkmen brought me back to high school, and I just missed Krumbums but heard they were great too. Speaking of The Utters, we are trying to get a live track of us doing “Dirty Sea” together to contribute to their tribute record.

So we’ve been getting a lot of emails back home about what was going to happen with our annual “Wreck The Halls” show in Boston. After thinking it over and over and talking with the promoters we decided to give it a break this year. There are a couple reasons why. #1, we just did 2 shows in Boston last month and are planning a show in The New England area sometime in March. #2, the economy is in the CRAPPER and we don’t want our friends, family, and fans spending hard earned money on a Street Dogs ticket when they could use it more wisely in the holliday season. I hope this is okay for everyone and we will see you all hopefully in March. We should have a better plan in the next couple weeks about the spring.

Some other emails we’ve been getting are, “when will our new merch be available online?” The answer is today I started working with the online store to get some of the shirts up, but the rest should be up by tommorow evening including shirts, new hoodies, bandanas, pins, new scally caps etc etc. Check out www.street-dogs/merch and if you don’t see what you want it should be up there really soon. We are also going to make sure they have a bunch of holliday specials and an ability to ship faster for the holliday season.

Oh… here’s some other great Vegas show news… We are honored to be playing with legends Cockney Rejects for Punk Rock Bowling (something we’ve been wanting to play for a long time) on Jan. 17th, 2009. Far From Finished as well! Here are the details….

Finally, tommorow is Veterans Day. Please honor the troops in your life who have served and whether or not you are “for” or “against” any particular war taking place at this time, please honor those currently serving. “They aren’t the policy makers, just sworn in order takers”. They deserve respect, hopes, and prayers on a safe return back home as soon as possible.

All the best everyone, thanks for the emails and for supporting the band in Europe.

Here’s a quick shout out:
Our friends at the Keep A Breast Foundation have partnered with Fox and Unite the United to present Shot In the Pit, a fundraising initiative through Keep A Breast’s Music For Awareness program. Combining art, photography, music, and philanthropy, Shot In the Pit is a touring exhibition featuring band photos from the legendary summer music festival Vans Warped Tour® taken by photographer Erin Caruso. The exhibitions take place at five venues from New York to Los Angeles beginning October 21- December 4, 2008. As the Pit Reporter from Vans Warped Tour, Caruso was up close and personal with the bands on the road. From her photo sessions this summer, she has donated over 45 images to the Keep A Breast Foundation. Unite the United will facilitate an online auction of images from the exhibition (including some signed Street Dogs photos!) alongside music memorabilia, and celebrity breast casts beginning November 26 - December 6th. 100% of the proceeds generated from the touring exhibition and the online auction will be donated to the Keep A Breast Foundation’s youth awareness and outreach efforts. For more info, please visit www.keep-a-breast.org

And for those of you in the US, if you haven’t heard it enough, please make your voice heard and VOTE today! Given the current state of the world, this is one of the most important elections of our lifetime. Voting is a civil right, hard-won for women, African Americans, and other underrepresented groups, and the foundation of our democracy. Millions of people around the world have no say in who governs them, so don’t squander your own power. Every single vote counts!

See you on the road!

A Note From Johnny

Hello friends and fans of Europe,
I wanted to drop a note to let you know that I unfortunately will not be making the trip to Europe on The Eastpak Antidote Tour with my brothers in the band. The band will still be going to Europe without me, per my request, playing the crazy, frenetic set that we’ve always had pride in playing. My friend, our guitar tech, and mandolin/acoustic guitar/banjo player Gavin Caswell will be filling in for me for the tour. Gavin is MORE than capable for the 40 minute sets that Street Dogs will be playing with Flogging Molly, Time Again, and Skindred. If you are concerned about my returning to the band, DON’T BE. Street Dogs for life!! I will see you Europe when we return (hopefully in the spring of ‘09). Without boring you with the details, I will tell you that I’m having some personal family issues that I have to deal with now. You have to put your family before your job sometimes. This is the first and hopefully only time this will keep me from the road and band I live by.
Thanks for understanding, please buy the boys a round for me when you see them and give them my love!
All the best-
Johnny
